I am totally in love with the gift of fresh lemon peels from my beloved Pure Juice Cafe!
The skins of lemons and other citrus fruits don't have to end up in the trash bin. They can be recycled and reused in the home and garden. Besides adding them to the compost pile, consider other practical and creative ways to recycle both fresh and dried citrus fruit skins. You can find hundreds of ideas online.
I use fresh lemon zest to enhance Humblebee’s Toiletries Co. Sicilian Lemon & Sugar Smoothing Body Scrub formula. I also like to preserve some peels with salt for cooking and sugar for baking. Leftover peels end up in a bucket and make a very effective household cleaner. Here is my favorite recipe.
Enjoy spring cleaning your house with this miraculous cleaner.
Fill container of your choice with cut up lemon peels. Add vinegar to cover the peels. Seal with tight-fitting lid. Put it away and forget about it for two weeks. After two weeks, strain the lemon peels from the vinegar then add water. Use a 50/50 mix of water and lemon vinegar. If you need strong cleaner use less water.
